HEAR2GETHER FOR MAC

Mac app
Privacy Policy

Effective 30 October 2026 · Publisher: hear2gether

This policy applies to the current native Mac preview of hear2gether. It describes local system-audio capture and playback through selected audio outputs. See the separate Windows and website policies for those products.

1. Audio access and purpose

When you start capture, the app uses Apple Core Audio Process Taps to access eligible audio playing on your Mac. Audio can include music, video, meeting sound, notifications, or other application audio and may contain personal or sensitive information depending on what you play.

The app processes that audio to provide the playback you request through selected connected headphones, speakers, or other audio outputs. It does not request direct microphone recording for this system-audio feature. Protected content and operating-system restrictions may limit capture.

2. Local processing and connected devices

Captured audio is handled in bounded temporary memory buffers on your Mac and delivered to the selected audio outputs. The current Mac preview does not upload captured audio to hear2gether servers, operate Internet listening rooms, or save captured audio as an audio file.

The app reads output-device names, identifiers, connection type, availability, channel configuration, and sample rate from macOS to show devices and route playback. These details are processed locally for device selection and diagnostics, not for advertising or a publisher-operated tracking profile.

macOS and the devices you select manage their own audio connections, including Bluetooth or other operating-system-supported transports. If you choose a third-party, virtual, or remote output, that provider may route or process audio under its own privacy practices. The app does not control those services.

3. Permissions and your control

macOS system audio recording permission is required for capture. You can decline or revoke access in System Settings; required features may then stop working. The app does not bypass macOS privacy controls.

  • Start or stop capture from the app and select or deselect audio outputs.
  • Disconnect devices or close the app to end the requested session.
  • Manage recording permissions under macOS Privacy & Security; the setting’s name varies by macOS version.
  • Uninstall the app to stop using it. macOS may separately retain permission, diagnostic, or installation records.

With normal-output preservation enabled, original system playback continues. Selecting an output means people using that output can hear the shared audio; start capture only when you intend this.

4. Diagnostics and retention

The app uses macOS logging for technical events such as capture start/stop, audio formats, errors, device changes, buffer occupancy, and dropped frames. Logs do not intentionally include audio contents. They can include timestamps, technical identifiers, and device/error information. Retention of system logs and system-generated crash information is controlled by macOS and your device settings.

Audio buffers are temporary playback data, not a retained recording or listening-history database. The current preview does not include publisher-operated analytics, advertising SDKs, automatic telemetry uploads, or a hear2gether account system. Apple and macOS services may independently process diagnostics according to their own settings and policies.

5. Support communications

If you email us, we receive your email address, message, and attachments you choose to send. You can provide the app version, macOS version, or relevant error messages to help troubleshoot. Do not send private audio recordings, passwords, or payment-card details.

Support communications are processed through our email provider and used to respond, investigate issues, and maintain necessary support or legal records. We retain them only as needed for those purposes and applicable obligations. Request access, correction, or deletion at the contact below; lawful recordkeeping requirements may limit deletion.

6. Sharing and security

We do not sell captured audio or use it for advertising. Under the app behavior described here, captured audio is not sent to the publisher. Support information may be handled by email/service providers or disclosed where required by law or necessary to protect rights and security. We use operating-system controls and appropriate access protections, but no software, device, or connection can be guaranteed completely secure.

The app does not offer child accounts or intentionally request children’s personal information. Contact us if you believe a child has sent personal information to our support address.

7. Changes and contact

This policy describes the current Mac preview. We will update the policy and effective date when relevant practices change, including before introducing publisher-operated network transport, accounts, analytics, or recording features.
